フェルトメーキングの特質: 奈良正倉院の8世紀「花氈」フェルト入門
ジョリー・ジョンソンは、西ヨーロッパから中国とモンゴルまでの国境を越えてさまざまなフェルトの伝統を旅し、研究してきました。2011年より正倉院奈良事務所に招聘され非常勤研究員として参加。

このレクチャーでは、正倉院花氈と、ジョリーが調査した伝統的なフェルトラグ作りの技法を比較します。さらに、2020年のレプリカ部分制作中の京都市伏見 JoiRae テキスタイル工房の研究を通じて、このような大きな作品を制作するプロセスを分析します。このレプリカ例は、奈良国立博物館の第72回正倉院宝物展で展示されました。
草木染めのウールやフェルトモチーフのサンプル、花氈第17号のレプリカ部分、各種出版物、9分間のビデオも紹介します。

Characteristics of Feltmaking: An Introduction to the 8th CE Kasen Felts of the Nara Shoso-in Repository

Jorie Johnson has traveled and studied various felt traditions across the roads from Western Europe to Mongolia and China. Since 2011 she has been an invited adjunct researcher for the Shoso-in Office Nara.

In this introductory lecture she will show a survey of traditional felt rug making techniques and compare them to that of the Shoso-in Kasen. Further, Jorie will break down the process of producing such a large work through her Kyoto JoiRae Textiles studio research during the making of several replica portions in 2020. One example was exhibited at the Nara National Museum during The 72nd Annual Exhibition of the Shoso-in Treasures.

Vegetable-dyed wool and felt motif samples, a replica portion of Kasen No. 17, various publications, as well as a 9 min. video will be presented during her talk.

プロフィール：
「フェルトメイキング・ウール・マジック」本の著者であるジョリー・ジョンソンは、日本のいくつかの美術大学で非常勤講師を務め、世界中でワークショップを開催しています。 2011年から奈良正倉院の動物繊維と花氈フェルト研究会のメンバーです。

1998年には、「民族藝術（Ethno-Arts Vol.14）」で、正倉院の花氈と比較して、シルクロードを横切る敷物に関する研究について書いています。2018年にイギリスのHALIに12ページの記事を執筆した他多数の著作があります。

ジョリーの作品は、V＆Aロンドン、ボストン美術館、サンフランシスコ美術館deYoung、その他のプライベートパブリックコレクションに含まれています。

ボストンの羊毛商人の家に生まれ、USAでテキスタイルデザインを学び、手作りフェルトの紹介は1978にフィンランドの大学で始まりました。1989年来日以来、京都にスタジオを維持しています。
